Sudakov logarithms in B → X s γ in effective field theory

چکیده
We construct an effective field theory valid for processes in which highly energetic light-like particles interact with collinear and soft degrees of freedom, using the decay B → Xsγ near the endpoint of the photon spectrum, x = 2Eγ/mb → 1, as an example. Below the scale μ = mb both soft and collinear degrees of freedom are included in the effective theory, while below the scale μ = mb √ x− y, where 1 − y is the lightcone momentum fraction of the b quark in the B meson, we match onto a theory of bilocal operators. We show that at one loop large logarithms cancel in the matching conditions, and that we recover the well known renormalization group equations that sum leading Sudakov logarithms. ∗[email protected] †[email protected] ‡[email protected]

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will study processes at energies √ s much larger than the masses of the W and Z bosons. Radiative (Sudakov) corrections to such processes contain logarithms L = log(s/M W,Z), and one gets two factors of L for each order in perturbation theory [1]. At LHC energies, these Sudakov corrections are not small — a typical electroweak correction αL/(4π sin θW ) ∼ 0.15 at...
متن کاملSpectator Interactions in B → V γ Decays and QCD Factorisation
We study the radiative decays B → V γ (where V = ρ, K *) in the framework of QCD fac-torisation, and in particular the hard-spectator contributions to the decay amplitudes. For the phenomenologically significant chromomagnetic operator, we show by an explicit next-to-leading-order computation that the spectator interactions factorise in the heavy-quark limit, i.e. that they can be written as th...
متن کاملResumming the color-octet contribution to radiative Υ decay
At the upper endpoint of the photon energy spectrum in Υ → Xγ, the standard NRQCD power counting breaks down and the OPE gives rise to color-octet structure functions. Furthermore, in this kinematic regime large Sudakov logarithms appear in the octet Wilson coefficients. The endpoint spectrum can be treated consistently within the framework of a recently developed effective field theory of coll...
متن کاملThreshold resummation in momentum space from effective field theory.
Methods from soft-collinear effective theory are used to perform the threshold resummation of Sudakov logarithms for the deep-inelastic structure function F2(x,Q2) in the end-point region x-->1 directly in momentum space. An explicit all-order formula is derived, which expresses the short-distance coefficient function C in the convolution F2 = C multiply sign in circle phi q in terms of Wilson ...
متن کاملFactorization and Sudakov Resummation in B → γlν
We apply Soft-Collinear Effective Theory to prove at leading power in ΛQCD/mb a factorization formula for the radiative leptonic decay B → γlν. Large logarithms entering the hard-scattering kernel are systematically resummed by a two-step perturbative matching procedure.
